Summit Christian Academy teachers take full advantage of the outdoor, historical, and cultural opportunities in the local area to enhance the classroom lessons. These outings include hikes to Cecret Lake and Antelope Island to study habitats, trips to the planetarium or Red Butte Garden to learn more about nature, and visits to the Utah State Capitol and the Natural History Museum to delve more deeply into state history. Through such field trips, students gain hands-on experiences and broaden the connections they make.

At SCA, we value the importance of exercise. The school grounds provide many athletic options with a gymnasium that houses a full-size basketball court and volleyball nets, a playing field large enough for games such as Capture the Flag and Kickball, and two playground climbing structures. Each regular school day includes two recesses and a P.E. class.

All SCA students are given opportunities to be involved with music, drama, and public speaking and to perform them in front of an audience in programs at the school and community. Students learn teamwork, music theory, instrument care, and performance skills. All practices, except for the Advanced Ukelele Club, take place during school hours.
  • Ukulele Club: First and second graders learn basic chord progressions and how to put them together into songs (this takes place during the school hours). On Fridays school dismisses at 1 p.m., and from 1-1:30 the Ukulele Club is open to students from other classrooms to learn more advanced skills.
  • Drama and Public Speaking: SCA puts together a major production for Christmastime, and smaller programs to perform for the local community and Seventh-day Adventist churches throughout the year. All students who are interested are encouraged to try out for the roles.
  • Choir: All SCA students participate in singing in the choir.
  • Recorders and Handchimes: This group is open to those in grades 3-4 who are interested in participating.
  • Handbells: This music group is open for students in grades 5-8 who are interested in participating.
